Citizen of Another Country

I am a Swiss citizen. Most days I never remember that I'm a citizen of another country. Maybe only once a month it comes to my mind, when we receive the Swiss Review in the mail. Other then that I live my life like I'm an American. I do things like Americans. I speak in English, I dress like an American, I walk and talk like one. Even eat American food. Recently I was thinking about how really we ALL are citizens of another country! It's so easy to forget and go on living life like you belong where you are at. It's easy to fall into the pattern of the world, talking and dressing like the world would have us do so. We must remain heavenly minded, remembering that we don't belong here! Let's be proud of the fact that we are citizens of another country! When we talk let people hear that accent and have them wonder where we are from. When we dress, let people ask what makes us so different that we will not dress in the immodest way the world wants us to.
Hebrews 11:13-16 says, "And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth. People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of thier own. If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return. Instead, they were longing for a better country--a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called thier God, for he has prepared a city for them."
We belong in a heavenly country. One that is pure, holy, and righteous. Don't be ashamed of that citiznship. ACT like you belong somewhere else. It's so easy to forget that and go on living life like you where made for this earth. I challenge you to not remember this once a month, or twice a year around the holidays, but EVERY DAY, be mindful that the way you speak, dress, and act should reflect your citizenship in God's country!

another quote!!

"Behind every great man, there is a great woman."
how true is this? Women either have the choice to tear down their man or build him up. If you look at the great men throughout history, look also at their wives! :) Just something to keep in mind when you get married! Ladies, we REALLY do have a LOT of power!! agree? :)

A mirror quote

This is an absolutely awesome quote from Voice of the Martyrs. I've had this pasted by my mirror for forever now, so I thought I'd share it with you gals.
I Stand

I stand with the apostle Paul in stating that “for me to live is Christ and to die is gain.”

I take a stand to honor the Lord Jesus Christ with my hands to serve all mankind.

I take a stand to honor the Lord Jesus Christ with my feet to spread the gospel to all the ends of the earth no matter what the cost.

I take a stand to honor the Lord Jesus Christ with my lips by proclaiming the Good News to all who hear and by edifying the Body of Christ.

I take a stand to honor the Lord Jesus Christ with my mind as I meditate upon His Word and His promises to me.

I give my earthly treasures and all that I posses to follow the way of the cross.

I commit to love my family, orphans, widows, lepers, the wealthy, and the poor the way that Christ loved the Church.

I surrender my will and life to His will and life.

I commit to the service of the Lord by being a good steward of my time.

I surrender this body on the earth to the perfect will of Jesus, and should my blood be spilled may it bring forth a mighty harvest of souls.

I pledge allegiance to the Lamb. I will seek to honor His command. I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes.

Lord Jesus, Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

I love my America and my fellow citizens, and I claim America for Christ.

PRAY

Well, since we are on the guy/gal topic, I thought it applicable to add a quote from some missionarys we know. This is very thought provoking!

Patience (don't get ahead of the Lord in this matter; wait on Him and for Him);

Responsibility (focus on what the Lord has called you to do, and He will bring your spouse into your life at the right time);

Ask (we have not because we ask not; ask and you shall receive; be specific -- pray for a wife/husband just like the one described in Titus 2 or Proverbs 31);

Yield (the Lord Jesus will not reveal His will to us if we are not committed to obeying it; if your calling is to be single, accept it).

Thanksgiving

So...I pretty much decided that it was time to post, considering that my two bossom blogger buddies are off partying in Coos Bay...Coose Bay...Cose Bay...Coo's Bay...WHATEVER. Yeh, so my Thanksgiving was really, good I hope it was the same for ya'll! I dunno about you guys, but yes I was one of those crazy shoppers who got up at 5:45 this morning to hit the sale craze And Fred Myers, Khols, and wherever else. :) I honestly hope you all got to take just a few moments to consider the TONS of blessings the Lord has showered us with. I know like everyone says that, like every year. But seriously, think about it. I am SO blessed to have an AWESOME family who ALL care SO much about me. They have shaped me into the person I am now! :) And Jesus' saving grace, and my puppy, and my friends that mean SO much to me. You guys are SO great, and have encouraged me in SO many ways. I would not be where I am today if it was not for you guys. And even the "silly" things that mean alot to me, like moozic! (worship rocks! :) And sports, and color, and things that smell nice, pictures, clothes, and cars, and make up and...well yah get the point! :) But most of all, I'm SO grateful for the Lord's COMPLETE faithfulness that I have experienced over and over in my life. Most times it is when I look back and I fully realize it. Also his never failing love, no matter what I do, he will ALWAYS understand me and forgive me, his grace is astounding. Each day he shows me that i can trust him with my innermost thoughts and feelings. These attributes make Christ the Great Prince, the Lord of my Life and I love Him so much, and I am SO excited to be on this amazing journey!

Much love to each one of you,

Fruits of the Spirit: Self-control

Woohoo! THE LAST FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT! And....how long did it take us to accomplish this? Okay...a few notes before I get started:
  1. First of all, we took off the "Quote of the Day" Because there were some quotes that the blog commitee did not agree with :) Also, some people "Quote of the Day" displayed, the Blog Commitee does not choose to support. Sorry for this inconvience. :)
  2. Second of all, I don't know if many of you know, but the "Hawk Nelson" link was not working. So I changed the link to their new site, that is still in progress, but it still has some good moozic available there. So go check it out!

So, self-control. What is there to say? Well...hmmm. Perhaps I should start with how important Self-control really is. 2 Peter addresses "Self-control" in chapter one:

"For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness; knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindess; and to brotherly kindess, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ."

Clearly, if you possess these traits, it says that it will keep you from being ineffective. Truly, Self-control IS important. It's not just something your parenst taught you so that you would be better behaved. Self-control applies to SO many areas of life, and I know when I haven't controlled myself. After, as I have told many of my friends, I regret what I have done...and especially SAID. Everyone one of us needs to practice Self-control, and it is something inspired by the Holy spirit. So, this is pretty much all I have to say. But maybe you should consider this more than you have before. Like I said, we ALL need to work on it, Yes, that includes you! ;) So, I've tried to think twice about everything I say. (of course I don't do this all the time unfortuantely...wouldn't it be great if I did) And I find myself often thinking? Would that be proper? Would that be building someone up? Whatever is true, whatever is pure, whatever is right.

Live for Him,

Byrde

2) I'm tongue tied
3) I'm directionaly challenged. no joke. like on Thursday I got lost going to the orthodontist (sp). i had to turn around TWICE. then i got lost going to church that evening. I still don't know how to get to Old Navy, Christian Supply, or Kohls. ;P (the most important stores, right??)

6) Speaking of sneezing, I like to sneeze. loud. I love how it clears my head and scares the living cells out of everyone near me. :) *beware*
7) I hate going to the dentist. i mean, i'd rather go to the dump then the dentist. and yes, i've been to a dump, oh, 3 times. nasty places. so unsanitary. they're like, full of garbage. and they reek like trash. :P no duh.

Oh Saviour, I have promised

O Jesus, I have promised
To serve thee till the end;
Be thou forever near me,
My Master and my Friend:
I shall not fear the battle
If Thou art by my side,
Nor wander from the pathway
If Thou wilt be my guide.

Oh, let me feel Thee near me;
The world is ever near.
I see the sights that dazzle,
The tempting sounds I hear.
My foes are ever near me,
Around me and within;
But, Jesus, draw Thou nearer,
And shield my soul from sin.

Oh, Jesus thou hast promised
To all who follow Thee,
That when Thou art in glory
There shall Thy servant be;
And, Jesus, I have promised
To serve the till the end.
Oh! Give me grace to follow,
My Master and my Friend.

Thursday 7

Seven things I can't STAND:

  1. Nails down a chalk board (or glass!) duh! :)
  2. "Light" hugs. Like when the person your hugging or who hugs you just like barely puts their arm around you and doesn't even let the full weight of their arm(s) drop down you. And they just like barely lean in. Oh man. I'm like...dude, if we're gonna hug, let's HUG! I probably smuggle people. But it seems so pointless to just like smile and "air-hug"! my word...
  3. The smell of the recyling things for bottles. ewww...like the big ones with all those machines at Fred Myers or w/e. YUCK!
  4. Young teenage couples making out in public! PA-leez!
  5. Mashed Potatoes
  6. People who think they are WAY cool, and somehow superior to everyone else
  7. Going "shopping" when I have no money with me! :(

"Only dead fish swim with the stream"

"A Real Woman" was taken from "The Rebelution" blog. I enjoyed this ALOT. It challenged me in many ways...Yay! *pastes on wall* :) Hope you like it too! Very convicting!

Much love,
Bethi

Written by Philip Hainline, Heidi Reimer, and Maria Reimer at the respective ages of 16, 19, and 17.

"A Real Woman"

A real woman . . .…is glad she’s a woman and rejoices in her femininity, expressing it through her attitude, appearance and bearing. (1 Timothy 2:9-10)

…does not compete for equality with men or chafe at God’s design for male and female, but delights in and understands the importance of her calling to complement man’s role. (1 Timothy 2:11-12, Ephesians 5:22-24)

…values the cultivation of her mind and diligently seeks after wisdom and knowledge. (Proverbs 22:17-21, 2:2-6)

…realizes her imperative need to allow the Holy Spirit to control her emotions and expressions of them. (James 1:19-20)

…does not wallow in self-pity or make a habit of voicing complaints, but radiates cheerfulness and joy. (Proverbs 15:15, Proverbs 17:22)

A real woman . . .…appreciates her father’s protection, and respects and submits to his authority. In so doing, she is preparing herself to exercise the Biblical role in her relationship with a possible future husband. (Ephesians 5:33-6:3, 1 Peter 3:1-2)

…is trustworthy and gains the respect of those around her. (Proverbs 31:11)

…restrains herself from listening to, or participating in gossip, but instead speaks with wisdom and discretion. (Proverbs 11:12-13, 22, 20:19, 3:11)

…encourages and builds up those around her instead of criticizing and tearing them down. (1 Thessalonians 5:11, Ephesians 4:29)

…does not have a nagging, contentious or manipulative manner in which she deals with others. (Judges 16:16, Proverbs 21:9, 19, 26:21)

…is not boisterous or loud in her speech or actions but is characterized by a gentle and quiet spirit. (Proverbs 9:13, 1 Peter 3:4)

A real woman . . .…portrays chastity, modesty and reverence in her manner, and wears the ornament of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is her true beauty. (1 Peter 3:3-4, Titus 2:4-5)

…is not offended by respect shown her through gentlemanly courtesies (opening doors, etc.) but cultivates the differences between the sexes that make her worthy of this deference. (1 Peter 3:7, Mark 10:6)

…seeks to make God her number one desire and the Lover of her soul, knowing that only He can fully satisfy. (Psalm 73:25, Psalm 63:1)

…uses her years of singleness to seek and serve God without distraction, and is content to leave the details of her future to Him. (Psalm 73:25, Philippians 4:11)

A real woman . . .…does not relate to members of the opposite sex in a flirtatious or forward manner, but instead saves all her passion for her future husband. (Thessalonians 4:3-8, Proverbs 6:25, 1 Corinthians 7:1)

…holds her virginity before marriage sacred and will not compromise it for anything.(1 Timothy 5:22)

So, how'd you like it. Comment and let us know! What are your thoughts?!

Take Time to be Holy

Take Time to be Holy
Take time to be holy,
Speak oft with thy Lord;
Abide in Him always,
And feed on His word.
Make friends of God's children;
Help those who are weak;
Forgetting in nothing
His blessing to seek.
Take time to be holy,
The world rushes on;
Spend much time in secret
With Jesus alone;
By looking to Jesus
Like Him thou shalt be;
Thy friends in thy conduct
His likeness shall see.
Take time to be holy,
Let Him be thy guide,
And run not before Him
Whatever be 'tide;
In joy or in sorrow
Still follow thy Lord,
And, looking to Jesus,
Still trust in His word.
Take time to be holy,
Be calm in thy soul;
Each thought and each motive
Beneath His control;
Thus led by His Spirit
To fountains of love,
Thou soon shall be fitted
For service above.

Stuck in a Rut

Have you ever felt totally stuck? Like life was just a wheel that keeps going around and around? I'm feeling that way. I really don't like routine. It's kind of weird, but I've just started to notice that about myself. I'm more of a random person who likes spontaneity in life. ;) Maybe college isn't the thing for me. It's like I don't have a life and my classes are dictating it for me. Every day is the same...get up...go to class...get home...do homework...eat dinner...do the dishes...drop dead into bed...wake up...go to class, etc etc etc. *sigh*

am i the only one who ever feels this way??

Quote!

I've given up saying which ones are my favorite quotes. They're all so good! Here's one by Betty Stam, a martyr for our Lord.
“Lord, I give up all my own plans and purposes, all my own
Desires and hopes,
And accept Thy will for my life.
I give myself, my life, my all
Utterly to Thee, to be Thine forever.
Fill me and seal me with Thy Holy Spirit.
Use me as Thou wilt,
Send me where Though wilt,
Work out Thy whole will in my life
at any cost
Now and forever."

Bug's Thursday 10

Okay, here's 10 things that I would never do!

I would never~

1. Go skydiving.... (Now I know this is a touchy subject for some of you cwazy/idiotic people, but I am all for the feel of ground beneath my feet!)

2. Eat bugs....(Despite the fact that considering my nickname it would be considered cannibalism...I still would never eat the crunchy things! Unless, of course, there was some reason I had to. :P)

3. Be seen in public without earrings! (It's like being.....unclothed! Random fact of the day, I collect earrings...I am already at a whopping 56 pairs. :P)

4. Kiss a snake! (MJ...I'm sorry...I know how close you are to reptiles, but putting my ruby red lips (rofl) anywhere near some scaley THING is just wrong.)

5. Propose to a guy. (That's is just WRONG! Talk about tolly reversing roles! btw, I am talking about marriage proposals here, not bussiness proposals. :P)

6. Play the part of a crazed fan. (Can't you just see me screaming my lungs off for just one glimpse at my most glorious someone?! I shall remain dignified till I drop dead. (We can all hope you never catch me in a moment of weakness.)ROFL. )

7. Go backpacking. (If I was given the choice! Going with friends, though, is different. :))

8. Swallow a live gold-fishy. (Again a touchy issue. I know some of you have done that. :) That's so....so....so...inhumane! rofl. And....unsanitary! lol. :P)

9. Squash a spider. (EEWWWWW! The feeling of crushing miniscule bones is not on my top-ten ways-to- make-myself-feel-happy list!)

10. Shop at the mall in my pajama pants. (This seems to be like a new style or something!)

XXXXX Bug XXXXX

Most embarrassing moment: REVEALED!!

Ok, I don't think I've ever told anybody this before. It's my WORST embarrassing moment. I'm not sure why I'm sharing this cuz telling it might rank up there with the top 5 embarrassing moments...BUT, I think it is most hilarious on this side of things so I'll spill the beans. ;)

So, I must give you some background infromation first. Mom went to the beach with her good friend from CoosBay several years ago. I must have been in the 7th or 8th grade. I'm not sure exactly. Anyway, mom and this friend went out to eat on their way home from the beach at a restaurant next to Camp 18 (which i'm sure you've all been to...the water they serve is GROSS, isn't it?? lol). Mom ordered a hamburger I think, with extra thousand island dressing...which turned out to be way too old and rotten. Sickness followed. However, none of us knew it was food poisoning because food poisoning can hit 24 hours after the bad food is eaten. Nobody connected it in their minds. WELL, maybe somebody did, but didn't feel the need to share it with me. :P Anyway, I do believe AnnaChristie and Holly and I were at youth group while mom was home being sick. Dad had told us before that if it got any worse we would have to take her to the hospital. Half way through youth group, Dad shows up. SO, I immediately assume that mom is worse and therefore we are taking her to the hospital. Mistake #1. Mistake #2: I told my friend that we were rushing to the hospital. Mistake #3: My friend told the youth group. Mistake #4: The news traveled ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE PRAYER CHAIN. Of course, I didn't know half of that until later. So, we're rushing home, and I'm practically praying that mom will have to go to the hospital. :P However, Dad didn't think it was nessecary. Later that night the pastor's wife calls, and said to Dad, "I called every hospital in the area and couldn't find her." Dad said "she just has a stomach ache". LOL. food poisoning, if you know, does NOT AT ALL come close to "just a stomach ache". It added to my embarrassment of course...the whole prayer chain alerted!!!! dear me. Well, you wouldn't believe all the weird looks we got that Sunday. Or how many people came up to me saying "Your the one with the mom in the hospital?" :P

ok. that was...embarrassing. hope you all enjoyed laughing at my expense. ;)

until I post again...

Bug's FaVoRiTe Quote eva!

This is the most awesome quote ever! It's so amazing! Next time you're going though a hard time, read this! It puts everything into perspective!
“In times of trouble say:
First, he brought me here. It is by his will I am in this strait place;
in that I will rest.
He will keep me here in his love, and give me grace in trials to behave as
His child.
He will make the trial a blessing,
teaching me lessons he intends me to learn,
and working in me the grace he means to bestow.
And last, in his good time he can bring me out again.
How and when, He knows.
Therefore, I will say,
I am here by God’s appointment,
In His keeping, under his training,
for His time.”

learning to trust God with my future

Today at PCC, I talked with an advisor about the degree I want to pursue: Vet Technology. I love animals, as you all know, and enjoy science so it seems like an ideal thing for me to pursue. However, there are so many thing that I have to do to get into the program. I have to trust God completely and if that is what He wants me to do, then He will open the doors. Not only is it a competitive program, but most students applying already have college degrees. They are practically guaranteed a spot in the program. Only 25 students are accepted each year, and 50 to 80 students apply. Basically I won't know if I've gotten into the program until June. Which is too late to apply somewhere else so I have to think about Plan B and Plan C now and trust that God will do the rest. It's comforting to know that God will show me His will. I just have to be patient and willing to see His plan unfold in my life.
Pray for me, as I strive to meet the necessary requirements and deadlines. It is going to be very streching for me, but I know I will have MANY stories to share with you of God's continuing faithfulness in my life!

ForeverHis,
~Becca~

Gentleness

I've been pinched and prodded and yelled at and....ya, so now I'm posting...finally! :) I understand I have failed all my friends and am a discredit to the blogging world. Well, now that I've got that off my chest...gentleness. Here's a quote defining gentleness from "A Young Woman's Walk with God":
"Gentleness~
. means to be gentle or meek, to be lowly or humble,
. is a form of self-control that Christ alone can give,
. expresses itself in a submissive spirit toward both God and man, and
. is the opposite of self reliant arrogance."

I hope you all have realized by now that it is impossible to live out the fruits of the Spirit without the Spirit! Gentleness is gleaned from God alone! Only in a right relationship with God can gentleness be cultivated in our lives. Like all the other fruits of the spirit, gentleness gives a clear picture of God's presence in our lives. "Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near."
So often when we think of gentleness we are reminded of wht gentleness looks like in action. However, for this post, I want to focus on a heart of gentleness.
We must ask ourselves, why is gentleness so important to God? In 1 Peter 3:4 we are told that a gentle and quiet spirit is precious in the sight of God. By definitiont, gentleness is a heart that is at rest. A heart not tossed about by worries or doubts. Gentleness means trusting in God. A spirit of gentleness is a spirit at peace. Gentleness means submitting to the Maker.
Gentleness also means "to be tamed". "The word tame, which is the opposite of wild, describes one accustomed to control by another. The word also suggests one whose will has been broken or who has allowed himself or herself to be dominated by the will of another. Speaking as a teenage girl I can generally say that my gender is typically "emotionally unstable". (No insult intended) :P However...it's true! We live on this emotional roller-coaster of worry, depression, anxiety and whatnot! Yes, we have wild hearts! We need our Lord to tame our spirits and bring our hearts under His domination. We have our will and worries, but we need to submmit those to God's authority and power. Whenever you feel like there is a tempest going on inside of you, remember that peace is yours to obtain if you submit to God. I know I've only gone into one small corner of the huge picture of gentleness. I would encourage you guys to go study it more because the jewels to be found are amazing!

Seven things you may not have known about me:

1) I did gymnastics for 2 years...then I got too tall. :) jk. that was before I was...tall.
2) I have played basketball for a total of 5 years.
3) I was in a choir for 7 years...2 different choirs.
4) I've moved twice. When I was 3 months old we moved from Bellevue, WA, to a little farm house, then from there to the house we live in now...and we've lived here for 17 years!!
5) I am a HUGE letter writer. I've had too many pen pals to name. My cousin and I have written each other for the last 9 years. I've kept every single letter...there are around 100. ;)
6) I'm the official phone answerer in our home. lol.
7) AND, i love dogs. wait, you already knew that. oops. aw well.

howdy ye peoples!!

hey y'all!
sorry it's been so long since i've posted! The football game was SO much fun! The weather was as good as can be expected for fall--cold and crisp. BUT, it didn't rain, so for that I am thankful. It was a competely sold out game...58,600 people in attendance or so. It's always fun hanging around football fans. They really get into the game! WOW. It's better now that alcohol has been banned...not quite so crazy. :-P
So, I promise I will post on self-control as soon as bug posts on gentleness. ;) *pinches Bug*

foreverHis,
~becca~
